How It Works

GST Formulas Explained

Adding GST

GST Amount = Base × Rate%
Total = Base + GST Amount
E.g. ₹10,000 + 18% GST = ₹1,800 → Total ₹11,800

Removing GST

Base = Inclusive ÷ (1 + Rate%)
GST Amount = Inclusive − Base
E.g. ₹11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000 base → ₹1,800 GST

🏙

Intra-State (CGST + SGST)

When buyer and seller are in the same state, GST splits equally between CGST (Central) and SGST (State).

🗺

Inter-State (IGST)

When buyer and seller are in different states, the full tax is collected as IGST by the central government.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a unified indirect tax in India that replaced VAT, Service Tax, and other levies. Applied at every stage of the supply chain, it is collected at the point of sale and businesses can claim input tax credit on taxes paid at earlier stages.
For intra-state transactions (same state), GST is split equally: half goes to the Centre as CGST and half to the State as SGST. For inter-state transactions (different states), the full GST is collected as IGST by the Centre and then apportioned to the destination state.
GST rates are classified under HSN (Harmonised System of Nomenclature) codes for goods and SAC codes for services. Most services fall under 18%, restaurants at 5%, essential items at 0–5%, and luxury goods at 28%. Consult a CA or check the official GST portal (gst.gov.in) to confirm the rate for your specific category.
A GST-exclusive price (net/base price) does not include tax — you add GST on top to get the final amount. A GST-inclusive price already has tax built in — use the "Remove GST" mode to extract the base amount and the tax portion. Most B2B invoices show exclusive prices; B2C MRP labels are typically inclusive.
Yes. It uses the standard Indian GST formulas as mandated by the GST Council. For adding GST: Total = Amount × (1 + Rate/100). For removing GST: Base = Inclusive ÷ (1 + Rate/100). Results are rounded to 2 decimal places as per standard invoice practice.
